About Gynecomastia Treatment
Men, when you receive a diagnosis of gynecomastia, or the abnormal growth of breast tissue, don't lose hope. At Dr. A Jay Burns Cosmetic Surgery, we can provide you with options to decrease the feminine appearance of your chest. Our board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. Burns, has more than 30 years of plastic surgery experience, and has an advanced surgical approach that utilizes very small scars lateral to the breast for a male breast reduction. He knows that avoiding breast and nipple arealor scars for men is paramount in importance when it comes to gynecomastia treatment. We want to help you feel less self-conscious or embarrassed about your condition, especially when your chest is exposed at the pool or gym. Dr. Burns is one of the leaders in the DFW area for breast reduction surgeries for men, and offers private consultations in his office. We want you to look as good as you feel. Call today.
Gynecomastia surgery is reserved for men who have enlarged breasts that cannot be corrected through other medical treatments, medications, diet, or exercise. If you feel bothered by the appearance of your chest, and are physically healthy and at a stable weight, you may benefit from this surgical procedure. Teenagers may also benefit from gynecomastia treatment, however a secondary procedure may be needed during adulthood if abnormal breast tissue continues to develop. During your private consultation, treatment options will be provided, including the possibility of undergoing surgery to correct the condition.
"My husband and I have met with several pediatric plastic surgeons over the course of the past two years. Dr. Burns is by far the best of the group. Our son is still a few years out from having his surgery, however, I wanted to express how much I love Dr. Burns! He has been so extremely caring and has answered all my questions and made me feel like he truly cares about our little man. I never felt rushed when meeting with him and he made it very clear that if we felt we needed to see him again before our next yearly appointment, his door was always open. The other surgeons we met with may be great surgeons as well, but, Dr. Burn made me feel like my son was his only patient. His demeanor and caring personality make him the best fit for our family. I know our son will be in good hands when the time comes for surgery."- F.S. / Facebook / Aug 16, 2017

Liposuction is often used during male breast reduction surgery. Performed under general anesthesia, liposuction is first used to remove excess fat and tissue from the chest wall. The second step during this surgery is to remove any loose skin and ensure that the nipple and areola are in proper position. This requires an incision that is usually placed where the glandular tissue resides. Once the loose skin has been excised, the remaining skin and underlying tissue will be pulled to a tighter position. Not all patients will need liposuction and some may not require skin tightening. But in most cases, this surgery does involve both liposuction and excision.
What To Expect
Following gynecomastia surgery, your chest will be wrapped in a medical support bandage to help minimize swelling and bruising. In advanced cases where surgery was more invasive, a surgical tube may be inserted to help drain excess fluid. The results following treatment are immediately visible and most men find the outcomes extremely satisfying. The final results typically appear within 3 – 6 months. Any incisions that were made during surgery take time to heal, and with proper incision care they will fade and become secondary to your new masculine-appearing chest. Once the chest has healed, you are free to continue exercise and strength training, which will help optimize and compliment the final results.
